History
Throughout its history, Coleshill has been part of the parish of Amersham. The soil of the churchyard probably represents the unimproved ground of the original clearing on which Coleshill was founded. For 1000 years there was nothing to disturb the peace except the munching of cattle. As early as 1649 Coleshill people were expressing the wish to have a church of their own – ‘the inhabitants earnestly desiring the same’, as it was recorded, but they had to wait over 200 years before their desire was gratified.

Then the Lord of the manor gave a small triangle from the northern tip of the common to the churchwardens of Amersham to meet the wish expressed as long ago as 1649 for a church for the villagers of Coleshill.

Through the generosity of the Drake family and other local benefactors, the architect George Street, a distinguished exponent of neo-Gothic, was commissioned to design and build the church which was completed in 1856. The church has the beautiful proportions and unpretentious detail for which Street’s work is admired, and has been praised by Sir John Betjeman. The brick was made locally and the stone brought by river to Windsor, and thence by cart.

The two-manual pipe organ is considered to be a distinguished instrument and is constantly maintained in excellent order.

News from All Saints'
Ann Trotman
Ann’s memorial service was held on Monday 19th May. The church was full, which showed the affection and respect which she was accorded in the village. The window sills were decorated with wild flowers and also each had one of her wood carvings to remind us of just one of her many talents. As a long-standing member of the church choir and committee, and a participator in many church events, she will be greatly missed.

Bishop Alan
On Easter Day, All Saints’ was pleased to welcome, at short notice, the Bishop of Buckingham, Dr Alan Wilson. The new Churchwardens’ staves were used in procession for the first time and the Bishop described their significance to those present, and dedicated their use. He concluded his visit by accompanying a number of the congregation to the Red Lion for coffee. Many thanks to John Ullman for arranging this on a Sunday morning.

AGM
The AGM of the combined parishes took place recently. The offices of the All Saints’ Churchwardens were renewed and the committee in the main re-elected. The only change is that David Elliott has had to stand down due to work commitments and the vacancy has been filled by Michael Hooley. The list of committee members is now: Dumpy Swerling and Helen Spencer (Church-Wardens), Chris Wege (Hon Secretary), Jennifer Brock, Petrina Clackett, Catherine Green, Michael Hooley, Pam Hooley, Dick Ware, and Patsy Wright-Warren.

Youth Leader
As many will know the coming vacancy for a Youth Leader in the combined parishes has been filled by the appointment of Colin Blandford. Colin has a degree in Youth and Community Work with Applied Theology from Ridley Hall, Cambridge and Oxford Brookes. More recently he has been doing Youth Work in the North of England. We look forward to welcoming him soon.

Sunday Services
There have been changes in the pattern of Sunday Services at All Saints’. Formerly there was a 10.00 am service on the second Sunday of the month, but this timing has been cancelled. In future all morning services will be at 9.00am. The Book of Common Prayer is used on the first and third Sundays, and ‘Common Worship’ on the second and fourth Sundays. When there is a fifth Sunday in the month there will be the service of Matins.
