Parish Council News
The Parish Council has a vacancy due to the resignation of its Chairman Councillor David Hall. David had been a Councillor for 16 years and the Parish Council Chairman since 2001. During that time he worked extremely hard to bring in the new speed restrictions in Coleshill, a task that took 14 years of hard negotiations with Buckinghamshire County Council. There is now an ongoing review of these new restrictions, David always hoped that BCC would listen to what the villagers wanted and put a 30mph limit in the entire length of New Road and Magpie Lane. We hope that now the review is in place it will proceed without any delay and BCC will agree to these changes. I will keep you posted of developments through the email news list.

If you would like to be considered for co-option onto the Parish Council to fill the space that David has vacated, please contact me in writing before the next meeting which is to take place on the 10th July 2008 at 8.00pm in the small hall of the Village Hall. At this meeting a new chairman will be elected as well as the co-option of a new councillor.

Please remember at the beginning of the meetings there is the democratic ˝ hour, where members of the public can ask questions or request that the council takes up a query on their behalf with either Chiltern District Council or Bucks County Council. Road repairs are the topic of the moment, or I should say the lack of road repairs. If you would like to report poor road conditions in Coleshill you can contact Highways on Call on 0845 230 2882 or email on hoc@buckscc.gov.uk

The dates for the Parish Council meetings for the next year are:-
Thursday 10th July 2008, 18th September 2008, 13th November 2008,
15th January 2009, 12th March 2009, 21st May 2009.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Parish Council meeting.

Village Pond
The village pond and its husbandry is still a hot bed of discussion; whether to let it dry out in the summer months or keep it topped up; should the ducks be fed bread or grain; to dredge or not to dredge. These are some of the questions that need expert answers. The Pond Conservation Board has visited our picturesque pond and they will, in the next two months, carry out an in-depth investigation of the pond, its bed, the silt, the springs that feed the pond, flora and fauna. It will suggest a programme for a two-year clean-up within an overall ten year plan for maintaining the pond in the best possible way. This report will take into account that many of the villagers of Coleshill will want to be included in the clean-up work; the dates for these ‘working parties’ will be posted on the Parish Council notice board.

After many years the Parish Council meetings will now start at 8.00pm instead of 8.15pm in order to allow the democratic period, which, since its inception has lasted for 15 minutes, to be extended to 30 minutes.

One of the many items that get repeated in the democratic period of the CPC meetings is members of the public asking what can be done to stop the destruction of the grass verges throughout the village. Builders offloading heavy materials, cars parking, and lorries churning up the edges of the verges all contribute to destruction of them. Perhaps asking the builders who do work on your property to take care when delivering goods and putting a clause in the work schedule for the verge to be re-instated when work has finished would alleviate one problem. Parking can be a nuisance, when there is not enough space on the road outside a property. Lorries churning up the edges is always going to be a problem, but hopefully if we make drivers aware that we would like to keep Coleshill the picturesque village that it is, more care will be taken by all.

If you have any questions you would like to ask the Parish Council please come along to the Council meetings as the there is democratic period at the beginning when the public have chance to speak. Unfortunately, even though it can be very frustrating, members of the public are not allowed to speak during the full Parish Council meeting. Hopefully we will see you at the meetings.

Parish Council elections
Following the election on Thursday 3rd May 2007 the following councillors have been elected to the Parish Council
Frank AUTON
Peter CLACKETT
David HALL
Colin LAMBERT
Kim RICHARDSON
David SMITH
Richard (Dick) WARE

As there were only seven places and eight candidates it was inevitable that one of the candidates was not able to be elected and we say thank you to Lee Parker for all his work on Planning during his time on the parish council.

Planning in Coleshill
Following the discussion on planning raised during the democratic session of the recent Parish Council meeting it was agreed the Parish Council should publish an explanatory note on planning.
