The Coleshill Tennis Club

Click here to email the Tennis Club

The club was formed in 1988 without courts on land donated by the late Jack Adams, resident and benefactor of Coleshill. The original committee was Chris and David George, Sharon and David Hall, Lindsey Eardley, Dumpy Swerling, Helen Spencer and Barry Collins.

The two courts were laid in 1994 and in 2003.

The club now has a thriving membership of over 130.

Situated opposite the Cricket ground, with its own entrance from Tower road the club has two excellent condition courts and a clubhouse. There is adequate parking for players.

An active programme of league matches, inter club matches, casual play and Fun Days are organised throughout the year. Coaching is available for all ages and abilities. An active social programme is also arranged.

Club play takes place on Sundays at 10am and additionally on Tuesday evenings at 6pm from April.

The Tennis club membership is available to all residents of Coleshill and the club welcomes players of all abilities.

Coaching is available in private and group lessons from club member and Coleshill resident Alan Lowe. Alan is an LTA Licensed Coach and is contactable on 01494 433779 or 07768 498655

A very reasonable Annual membership fee is payable. Details of the benefits of club membership can be obtained by contacting Club Secretary - click here to send email

Tennis Club News
The Committee would like to welcome all the new members to the club. Some of you have turned up to the fun days held this year and also to various coaching/training sessions which we hope you have enjoyed.
Club Play sessions continue to be held on Sunday mornings from 10.45 am and Thursday evenings from 6.00 pm. Due to a fewer number of children turning out for the Sunday morning session the coaching is now from 9.15 am – 10.15 am until further notice. This is a group of mixed abilities but the children will be grouped according to their abilities. For the older juniors the sessions continue on Mondays from 5.00 pm – 6.00 pm. Open coaching session is on Monday from 6.00 pm – 7.00 pm and team training from 7.00 pm until dusk.
The Fun Day took place recently was well attended and enjoyed by all who participated. With thanks to Alan for his time and expertise.
The One Day Fun Mixed Tournament took place on 18th May. Because of the perfect weather the social side was as enjoyable as the tennis – the children who accompanied their parents played tennis whilst we had our barbeque lunch and drinks – it really was a family occasion. A record 28 players took part each playing five short sets with a different partner, games were accumulated throughout the day and the top four gentlemen players and top four ladies went through to semi finals and then finals. The eventual winners were Gerry Gajadharsingh and Maddy Murray, with Robin Ferguson and Karen Lowe the runners-up. Again thanks to Alan Lowe for his superb juggling of players and order of play – quite a task but it all ran very smoothly
The Village Open Tournament will have taken place by the time this goes to print. Thanks to Sharon Hall who, I know, has been busy organising courts to host the preliminary rounds.
The Generation Tournament is scheduled for Sunday 22nd June. This is open to all Junior Members, 13 years and under, and any adult members who could come along and partner different juniors during the day. Please talk to Susie Gajadharsingh if you are able to help. It will be run on a similar format to the One Day Fun Mixed Tournament – only the Juniors can accumulate points.
Junior Tournament - the final organised tournament of the year is the on Sunday 13th July. Look out for e-mails and flyers on how to enter. Any help on the day with umpiring, scoring, barbequing would be most appreciated. The contact for the event is Susie Gajadharsingh.
The Tennis Club Fundraising event will be on later this year in the Village Hall. We have some fun ideas so watch this space for further details!
Results - the Coleshill Teams continue to have varied success in the League Matches. The second mixed team did particularly well over the winter months and so will be promoted in the Farnham Common Winter League. My thanks to all those who have played in the teams to represent Coleshill; despite not always being victorious I hope you have all enjoyed the play and the social side to the matches. The Club is renowned for its after match refreshments, the opposition always comments on how great the food and wine is.

Dates for your diaries

Junior Tournament Sunday 13th July 2008. A popular event, loved by the children eager to win a trophy!
Finals Day Sunday 7th September 2008.

Further details of the above events will be posted on the notice board in the Club and e-mailed to members.
