2019 was one of the better seasons for Coleshill Cricket Club – in fact the best season since 2009, the last time that we won a league title! So, for the record, Coleshill are the 2019 Morrant Chiltern League Division 1 champions, as well as being finalists in the League T20 Cup, where we narrowly lost to Harpsden, who are two divisions above us.

Our junior sides continued to prosper under the stewardship of Guy Cornelius and his dedicated coaches and helpers. Our Under 8s were semi-finalists at the Woburn Tournament; the U9s won their Bucks League (we also came second, having entered two teams); our U10s were close runners up in the Bucks League and the U11s were third in theirs. We also had 6 children make it through to the Bucks County set up.

So, a good year on the pitch, and a pretty good one off it as well. Our aim was to integrate the club further into the fabric of the village and we feel have gone some way to doing this in 2019.  We had a great turn out for the annual Vice President’s wine and cheese day, and a fabulous day at our end of season U35s vs O35s match too. Ostensibly, this was to celebrate our league success, but it was such a fun day, with so many villagers at the club enjoying the beer, the BBQ, and some half decent weather, that we now plan to do it again this year, tying in with the Village Show on Saturday 12th September.

In 2020 our focus off the pitch will be on improving our Clubhouse and associated facilities. Regrettably, over the last few years, we have not been unable to invest in even the minimum levels of upkeep that the Clubhouse and nets require, and they are now in a pretty bad state of repair. Our long-term objective is to see the Jack Adams Field and the Club not just as the home of Coleshill Cricket, but also a valuable facility for the village to use and enjoy, and the first stage of this is to bring the Clubhouse back to reasonable level of repair.

To this end we help our first fundraising event at the Village Hall at the end of January when the talented Woburn Singers performed songs from classic films and shows, especially arranged for us.  Thanks to the support of the village – and beyond – the evening was a huge success, raising more than £1000 towards Clubhouse refurbishment and allowing us to plan some initial works before the season starts in May. However, we need to invest tens of thousands of pounds in the Clubhouse over the next few years, so we will be looking to put on more fundraisers on 2020 and beyond!

After securing promotion in 2019 we really need to kick off the new season well, and of course it would be useful to deepen our squad.  So if you’d like to get involved with Coleshill Cricket as a player, Marko, Club Captain, would love to hear from you (This email address is being protected from spambots.
